About

Katherine Huelsing lives in St. Louis with her wife, Delilah, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and has 2 daughters. Art has been her escape from the real world since 4th grade, when she was freed from school early every week to attend a watercolor class.

Katherine’s original career was banking. While an undergraduate business major at Indiana University, she snuck as many art classes as possible into her course schedule.  She continued taking art classes and making art while living in Chicago, Denver, and Memphis. Once she settled back in her hometown of St. Louis, Katherine obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching at Webster University and began her second career as a high school art teacher. After teaching design, drawing, painting, and sculpture at the high school level for 8 years, she decided it was time to pursue making art full time.

The name of Katherine’s studio, 3rd Period, represents the third phase of her professional life with a nod to her love of playing hockey.  Acrylic and watercolor painting have been her primary focus.  After taking several courses at the Kansas City Art Institute’s Educator ArtLab, Milwaukee College of Art and Design, and the Madeline Island School of Art, fiber art has become an increasingly large part of her work.
